To start off, this is a high quality instrument. I have not had a chance to use it in the field yet, but have given it a close inspection. This is a TRUE RECURVE BLADE. The picture may look more like a drop-point style belly, but if you draw a line from the edge at the handle to the tip, the belly of the knife is clearly concave below that line.
You can tell it is truly in the Damascus style (and not just etched detailing) with the detailing on the spine (these are not the same as the ones featured in the Recurve Hunter (Olivewood) photos), which is not really shown in the picture. The scalloped detailing on the edges has the "whirled fingerprints" look of true Damascus steel.
The handle is well put together, all of the pieces are flush, smooth, as described, and high quality.
The blade is quite strong, resistant to sharpening but holding an edge quite well.
I make leather products for a living, and the sheath with this knife is well made. It holds the knife securely, even holding the sheath upside down and shaking it did not dislodge the knife. The stitching, design, and edging is all well done. They used high quality leather and put a bolstering piece running down the edge-side of the sheath, to keep the edge of the knife from cutting the stitching holding the sheath together.
The pictures do not show all the factors of the blade. The spine of the blade itself has scalloped shaped detailing down the spine.
It came with a black sheath, not a brown one. I don't really care, but since it is not what is displayed in the photos, someone might.
This blade did not come razor sharp from the factory. I am used to this with a lot of knives, but due to the difficulty most folks have with a recurve blade, it might have been a nice touch.
I give the knife itself 5 stars. It may have just been improperly advertised. (Posted on 5/25/2017)
